CLEVER BOX VARIO SYSTEM

| A Vario plus a little bit more.
Announcing the new CLEVER BOX system. For the glider pilot
who wants more than just a basic Audio Variometer.
From the designers of the XK10, this system has been designed to
grow with you. Modular in design, the basic vario can be upgraded
to include more sophisticated functions, as your experience requires.
Housed in a small case measuring just 70 x 67 x 145mm. requiring
a standard 57mm panel hole, it can be mounted in the smallest of
panels.

| Simplicity of use has been one of the main
design criteria, so even the inexperienced early solo pilot will find
it easy to operate.
The following is only a brief summary of the main features of the CLEVER BOX VARIO SYSTEM.
There are only two controls used to select all the functions, and
both are very intuitive in their use. The top control knob is for
changing volume, response and other analogue functions. The bottom
rotary switch is for selecting the information to display on the
LCD screen. The following explains each display selected.

Selecting the VOLTS / TEMP position will show
the temperature of the external probe. The probe can be mounted
to measure the outside or cockpit temperature. The bottom line
shows the supply voltage.

Selecting the VARIO position will display an analogue moving
bar display along the top that moves from left to right when
in lift, or from right to left if in sink. Each block equals
1 knot and each block is divided into 5, so the display has
a resolution of 0.2 knots. It is preceded with a + or - for
confirmation.

The bottom left of the display shows the vario
response rate in seconds. This can be changed easily by pressing
the top control knob and turning.
The bottom right of the display shows the average value of climb
in knots over the last 10s - 120s period. (The averager time
period is user selectable from the set-up menu.) |
| Selecting the AVERAGE position displays the large
averager display and is simply just that. |

Selecting the THERM position will display four important
pieces of data.
Top left prefixed AV is the averager value.
Top right prefixed Tm is a timer function counting minutes,
and can be reset by pressing the top control knob.

| Bottom left prefixed
TH is the total average rate of climb in knots for the thermal.
If an asterisk is showing you are still climbing. If there is
no asterisk it is displaying the last climb. Bottom right prefixed
STF is the speed to fly calculated from the thermal average
and the polar for the glider.The next two positions will only
operate if a GPS receiver is connected to the system and the
navigation pack is installed. |
| Selecting LOCATE will display your present location
referenced to the nearest town in the CLEVER BOX database. |

Selecting A/F will scan the CLEVER BOX database to find the
nearest gliding site or landing strip. It will then display
the distance to the landing area in nautical miles, course
deviation in degrees left/right and name of site/strip. The
top control knob can also be pressed to display additional
information for the site/strip. |

Two Windows based Editors
are supplied to manage the CLEVER BOX database, so you can modify
and add to it as you require.

To switch the unit off, select OFF then press the top control knob.
This is to stop an inadvertent power down.
Selecting SETUP will enable you to select and change the following:-
|
- Default vario response. 0.5s - 3.5s
- 3 different Gust filters.
- 5 different audio tones.
- Fully adjustable quiet band for audio.
- Averager time period. 10s - 120s
- 2 polars for glider. Tipped / non-tipped.
Wet / Dry
- Upload new database
- Upload new programs
