CW 300 AND CW 400
QUICK
RELEASE UNITS
GENERAL
INFORMATION |
Full
British Gliding Association approval for use in all installation
compatible gliders on the UK Register was received in November
1998. Type approval has also been confirmed after trials by
the Netherlands RLD.
CW300 and CW400 units are now fully operational in many types
in the U.K and one CW300 C of G hook is now approaching 9000
launches in a K21 without fault.
The Ottfur
CW300 and CW400 Series of glider Quick Release Units are direct
developments of the original Patented Ottfur OM100 Series and as such utilise
the same geometry and sub-assembly design as the original but have been re-cased
to suit the modern gliders installation and launch requirements and are
installation compatible with the Tost G73, E75 units and Tost Launch
Rings.

DESIGN
CONCEPT |
Extensive
research into the problems experienced by users of existing types of quick
release unit resulted in the selection of only high quality approved materials
for the manufacture of the Ottfur CW Series, together with specialised heat
treatment for specific sub-assemblies, professionally manufactured springs and
the use of only approved hardware for its assembly.
Additionally
the design concept included the following prime objectives:-
-maximising
commonality of spares across the two types of unit.
-the
provision of an appropriate maintenance capability to the 'in the field' user.
-to
achieve a cost effective long service life with the overhaul life being
determined by 'On Condition' inspection with a minimum of 5000 cycles for the
CW300 before overhaul may be necessary and a minimum of 6500 cycles for the
CW400. |
DIMENSIONS |
The
decision to use only approved materials and hardware sourced in the UK together
with the necessity to maintain commonality with the original OM Series Drawings,
dictated the use of Imperial units for the design and manufacture of
sub-assemblies of CW300 and CW400.
However
the links plates and levers connecting the unit to the glider operating system
are drilled to accept 5mm standard 8.8 bolts or 5mm Clevis Pins and mounting
hole bushing is manufactured from seamless steel bushing stock with an internal
diameter of 6mm (clearance fit). |
